Empowering Rural Ghana Through Community Support
Find answers here to common questions about our work and how you can get involved.
What type of work does Help Ghana Thrive do?
We provide school supplies, sports gear and jerseys, and repurposed laptops to schools to enhance the educational experience of students. We provide medical supplies and equipment to community health posts to improve the health and well-being of residents. We also support infrastructure projects to assist in the economic growth of communities.
How does Help Ghana Thrive operate?
We are an all-volunteer organization to help ensure that virtually every dollar received goes directly towards our mission of improving education, health, and economic development in rural Ghana. Overhead costs are extremely low as we rely on resources dedicated to supporting nonprofit organizations. We are committed to ensuring that donations support their intended purposes.
Where does Help Ghana Thrive operate?
We operate in the rural Central Region of Ghana. Ghana is located on the coast of West Africa just north of the Equator. Ghana is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean on the south, Burkina Faso on the north, Togo on the east, and Côte d’Ivoire on the west. The capital of Ghana is Accra, which is located along the coast.
How can I donate to support your initiatives?
You can donate online through our secure portal using either PayPal, a credit or debit card, or Venmo. Checks can also be mailed to us at Help Ghana Thrive Inc., 5245 Elmore Ave. #1006, Davenport, IA 52807. If you would prefer another giving option, please contact us directly.
How do you partner with local communities?
We collaborate closely with local community leaders (e.g., chief and village elders) to learn about their needs. We visit schools and community health posts, speaking with teachers and staff, to ascertain their challenges and how we might provide resources to enable them to effectively perform their work.
How can my employer provide support?
There are several ways your organization might be able to support our mission. Perhaps your employer offers matching contributions for donations, could consider us as their charity for events (e.g., casual wear Fridays, school supply drive), or designate us as a charity to receive donations for volunteer hours by their employees. We also accept repurposed laptops. Laptops in good condition being replaced could be donated for use in rural schools.
